Treasured Moments

Did you have a lovely holiday weekend?

Linus is my new gnome.

“Lucky Linus” is a true garden gnome.

He measures in at 4″ in height and weighs 2 ounces.

That means, he can travel with me!

He arrived with a thick gauge wire stuck up his …well…you know, his butt.

Larry amputated the wire and now Linus is ready for fun.

A lavender plant was the centerpiece at lunch.

I find myself treasuring moments such as these.

My daughters and granddaughter smiling, laughing and sharing stories.

Larry holding my hand as we enjoy the day.

Holy Picnic Robin

Happy Good Friday.

It is a spectacular morning in Texas.

My heart is filled with…

I am not sure what it is filled with,

 I am content and joyful.

Last evening,

Larry and I bundled up a picnic

and went to the Dallas Arboretum.

A couple of thousand people, came also,

to see a James Taylor cover band .

After all that Champagne, it could have been the REAL JT.

We had a lovely evening, drinking Champagne

and

being together.

This week-end is packed with Easter awesomeness.

Memories, Blessings and Faith

One year ago, Lars, Josh and Matilda were in France.

We missed them very much and I was homesick to be with them.

This year has gone by very fast.

I wish someone would slow things down.

Yesterday we had the best appointment with Dr S,

of course we discussed Libby the entire time,

 remembering that my pug girl is getting older

and going forward will be with her age of 16 in mind.

I took this photo of Libs years ago

and

it is my favorite.

She has my vintage necklace on and it makes me smile.

Today is Maundy Thursday.

Today represents the last supper Jesus had with his disciples.

This holy week is my favorite of the entire year.

There is something so positive in the rebirth of Jesus

and

of Spring.

Christmas Roses~ Karen and John Cox sent us the most beautiful flowers for Christmas. I saved the roses for Holy week, remembering that things do not die. They live in our hearts forever.

But Here It Is

Wednesday crept up slowly behind me.

I knew it was coming, but did not expect it,

but here it is.

Isn’t it funny how that happens?

Being distracted can be a blessing and a curse.

Yesterday, My Larry and I gave in….

instead of having a special Tuesday Dinner and Movie,

we ate Mexican food in bed and watched the movie Frida.

Larry had never seen it. I have seen it a few times.

{will explain later why I wanted him to see it now}

He liked the movie very much.

***

Libby slept, front and center, during dinner and a movie.

Frida did not impress her in the least.

We heard from Libby’s Dr yesterday.

Dr S said, that Libby is experiencing kidney failure.

Her kidney failure numbers are high,{from Monday’s blood work}

but Libby is eating, wetting, drinking water

and all things old girl puppies do on a regular basis.

We have another appointment with Dr S today.

Larry and I will leave Libby at home and visit with the DR.

Last night, Larry was standing in the bedroom doorway.

He was holding Libby in his arms and said:

This is why 16 years ago I told you, no more dogs.

He smiled and then said:

I am sure glad that you did not listen to me.

I am glad that it  is Wednesday.

It Felt Beautiful

Sunday, Dinner and Movie was postponed. Again.

I was ready to try this new recipe

and

to be honest, disappointed that dinner did not happen.

Yesterday morning, Libby fell out of the big bed.

She has fallen out one or twice over the years

but has never hurt herself.

Yesterday, she was hurt and had to go see her DR.

Libby has nothing broken and is on pain pills.

While Dr S was checking Libby out, she noticed Libby’s breath.

They are doing tests on her kidneys today.

I could just cry.

I took loopy-Libby out to wet this morning

and the garden was damp from the spring rain.

It felt beautiful.

Yesterday, when My Larry bought the mail in,

he handed me a package and said: Happy Birthday!

I said: What?  My birthday is not till June.

He said: If I give this to you now, I have an excuse to get you something else.

This yarn and pattern was on my Elfster Wish List

and he bought it for me!  I am going to start it today!

{knitting always relaxes me and “centers” me}

No Bunny Banner?

This morning, while dealing with a bunch of “merde”

I tried to make an Easter banner for Blog.

{the photo of Matilda as the Red Queen was on loan}

This is what I came up with. Spring time flowers.

It is a bit lame, but the color blue is beautiful.

So I did not make a Bunny Banner,

what is the next holiday?

Sunday dinner and movie was postponed till tonight.

Monday Dinner and Movie.

Yesterday, My Larry took me to Scarborough Faire.

REN~FEST

We had a lovely afternoon…

and he bought me a walking stick.

I walk a lot and now have protection.

This stick is named Steve and I promise, he can pack a wallop.

I cannot wait to try him out.

The F Word~Fun, Funny or Funky?

It is a weekend.

My Larry and I are having wonderful days

and

getting a lot accomplished.

  Larry worked late Friday night,

I started a new book, cooked dinner and completed a few projects.

Saturday, Matilda had a soccer game,

{I love watching her play}

and after her game, we all went to lunch.

Josh, Matilda, Lauren, Jami, Larry and me.

The Family.

Saturday evening while doing a few errands,

we stopped by Jami’s house.

We played with the pups,

visited,

{she had the most luscious candles burning}

Played with the pups some more

and

then she said it.

The F word.

I have forgotten why she even said it.

It was rather FUNNY because she

had never said that in front of me before.

Me: Jami!

Jami: Oh Mom, I am so sorry.

To be honest, I am still laughing.

I adore my grown up daughters so much.

Yesterday, My Larry bought me a treat.

Kate Spade place mats and napkins.

They look so FUN at the table.

It is Sunday morning.

I am blogging today because I have a personal message to send.

Big Girl Panties

Today, I put on my big girl panties

and did something brave.

Something that I had put off for over one year.

Why do I do that?

Why do I hesitate when there is something I deserve or want?

Perhaps I just did not want to contact “that person” for a favor.

I did it though. Big girl panties and all.

While taking a few shots this morning, something happened.

I did not know it happened till I looked at my photos.

The photo below was on the camera.

I have no idea what it is or when I took it

but

I love it.

I love the movement and color.

It almost has a grasshopper look to it.

Be brave today.

Expect  the unexpected because life is wonderful

and

you deserve it.

Funeral Potatoes ~ Chef Valentine and The Pioneer Woman

 I spent a lot of time resting this past month,

lying the big bed, knitting, reading and watching a little TV.

While watching one day, this recipe looked inviting.

Thank you Pioneer Woman!

Larry and I made it the following weekend.

Meal one was with baked salmon, and green beans. {Sunday}

Meal two was with turkey bacon and fried egg. {Monday}

Meal three was with brats and a salad. {Wednesday}

Needless to say, it was a hit.

It reheats easily and tastes amazing with each meal.

FUNERAL POTATOES

ingredients

1 stick butter

1 medium onion finely diced

1/4 cup all purpose flour

1 cup milk

2 cups cicken broth

Kosher salt and pepper

1 1/2 cups Montery Jack cheese

1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup grated cheddar

2 cups kettle potato chips crushed

1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

1 (20-30 oz) bag of  hash-browns (thawed)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Grease 13 X 9″ baking dish 1 tablespoon of butter

Heat large deep skillet over medium heat.

Melt 6 tablespoons butter add onions, stir till soft.

Sprinkle with flour and stir 2 min. whisk in milk and whisk out lumps.

Add broth and whisk again. simmer 3 min till thickens.

Add salt and pepper. Take off heat.

Stir in Jack cheese, sour cream and cheddar.

Add the hash browns and mix everything together.

Transfer to baking dish.

melt one Tablespoon butter in small pan.

Add crushed kettle cups and Parmesan stir.

Sprinkle over casserole.

Cover-cook 20 min.

remove foil and cook for 20 min longer.

Top will be brown and bubbling.

Rest 15 min before serving.

This was a great meal for a large group or for left overs….
