On Tuesday, the OSCAR nominees were announced. For as long as I can remember, each year, Larry and I go to see all of the nominees for “Best Picture”…..then we plan a dinner around the awards ceremony. When Libby was still with us, she would get into the act. That sweet dog loved this Oscar dress best of all her costumes.
Over the past two years, we have missed our little tradition but we are looking forward to this year, the wonderful event and dinner. I love preparing the Oscar night menu and we also have little ballots showing how we voted.
Here is the list for 2022….
Best Picture Nominees
Belfast
Coda
Don’t Look up
Drive My Car
Dune
King Richard
Licorice Pizza
West Side Story
Nighmare Alley
The Power of the Dog
Larry and I have seen four of the movies, Tuesday night on Netflix, we watched, The Power Of The Dog. What an amazing movie that is and we would not have watched it if it had not been on the Best Picture List! (even thought I am a huge Kirsten Dunst Fan)
That is why Larry and I see all of the nominated movies. Even if the movie does not appeal to us, we watch it all the way through and it gives us the experience that we might have missed.
It has been such a long couple of years. There was a time when I took going to the movies for granted. Larry and I had been married almost one year when Grease was released in June, 1978. I think that we saw it twice at the theater that summer and that started our obsession for the movies.
Have you seen any of the nominated movies? I think that our next movie will be Nightmare Alley. Have you seen it?
Today is the Grayson County spelling bee. My 10 year old granddaughter is an alternate this year for her middle school! Larry and I are very proud of her. Below is a picture of her as a little girl. She was smart and awesome even then.
“The only stupid thing about words…is the spelling of them.” ~Laura Ingalls Wilder~
I am the worlds worst speller. It warms my heart knowing that sweet Matilda is a spelling champion. Are you a good speller?
Yesterday I was in a funk all day long. (ALL DAY LONG!) To be honest, it has carried over into today. (don’t you hate when that happens?) We went to church and did errands then came home to make dinner. Sunday dinner started with the apero. I baked a gouda cheese in pastry.
Dinner consisted of beautiful filets, baked potatoes and green beans. For dessert we had a sweet strawberry cake.
Larry picked out the movie…he said that he chose it because it is romantic and when someone is in a funk, they need something happy to focus on.
Return To Me is one of my favorite movies. The soundtrack makes me smile and to be honest Jim Belushi is the best at making anyone smile. (Do you know that I am 5 days older than Jim Belushi? He was born on June 15, 1954)
We are still homebound because of the winter storm. Inches of snow has ice beneath it. The Cottage is drafty and cool but I am bundled up in layers and hope to keep busy today. There is a painting to touch up, a knitted hat to work on, and a book to cuddle up with and read.
Larry is working, as he has been every day during the storm. His company cannot deliver product to businesses again today so… the next days and weeks will be spent catching up.
I am not sure if the mailman came yesterday. Our mailbox is covered with ice and cannot be opened.
The patio has interesting footprints. There are Larry’s, birds…and there is a nut at the very bottom of the photo that is half cut off and there are cat prints. I guess the cat was after the bird. (That’s sad)
I remember when Lauren and Jami were little girls. Days like this would be a new exciting adventure for them. I loved that spirit….maybe I should bundle up and walk to the neighborhood market (1/2 mile from the cottage) and find something yummy for dinner? Now THATS exciting! (exciting IF I do not slip on the ice and fall)
Please have a good day, whatever your circumstances might be.
Yesterday’s Lunar celebration welcomed the year of the tiger. Each year, one of my favorite ARTists, Suzi Reil, celebrates the lunar new year in her own way. Below is her year of the tiger share. If you message her, she sends the most wonderful, colorable, download to celebrate the new year. Find Suzi’s Etsy link below…..
Suzi has painted Libby’s (our pug dog) portrait…and it one of my favorite things. Larry and recommend Suzi highly.
It has been a creative week. I am finishing the valentine painting and knitting a few items that will be shipped off to lands far away. As I am finishing so many projects, I have found a unisex hat that is intriguing. It is a slouch hat with tons of cables. The dark red yarn is what I will make the hat out of, but must finish everything else before starting the hat.
Last evening, after working on paintings and such, Larry and I went out for dinner to celebrate Lunar New Year. The Asian restaurant was busy and the food was good. We sipped our wine and talked for an hour. It was relaxing and wonderful.
When we came home, we cuddled up and watched a movie. The movie on Netflix was titled “My Best Friend Anne Frank”. I, like every other teen ager read Anne Frank’s Diary while in high school. This movie is based on the real life relationship between Anne Frank and her friend Hannah Goslar. I am glad that I watched it but it made me sad.
Today is a brand new day. We are to get ice storms and freezing weather. If you don’t hear from me over the next few days, our power will be out and I will be cooking Larry dinner on a propane camp stove in the back garden. I promise to take pictures!
Yesterday, was International Hot Chocolate day. I enjoyed a huge mug and though of the wonderful places that I have had hot chocolate. The one place that I remember vividly, was during the holidays 1995. My Mother had just passed away and I was struggling badly.
Larry and I were active with the Wednesday’s Child Foster Organization at that time. We hosted a dinner and evening at Six Flags Over Texas for all of the children. After our responsibilities were finished, Larry and I had a chance to go into the amusement park where they were performing the “Christmas Story” and it was amazing…Larry bought me hot chocolate. It had whipped cream and sprinkles. I sat there crying, while watching the play and drinking my hot chocolate.
I love hot chocolate stories. Where is the most memorable place you have had hot chocolate?
Last evening, the storm front started moving into North Texas. The clouds were so dimensional that they looked touchable. Bad weather is on its way to Texas. I would be lying if I said that I was not frightened. Last years storm had left a bad memory in my heart. Freezing for days on end is the most miserable thing. I will never forget it.
If you are in the way of a storm, ANY storm, please be safe….
